Food Expo Update - August 2008

1,000 Exhibitors…
100s of new products all at Fine Food

22-25 September 2008, Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre

This year Fine Food will fill the entire Melbourne Exhibition Centre with 1,000 exhibitors showcasing hundreds of new products and services for the food, liquor and hospitality industries.

Everywhere you look there will be products applicable to your business and even ideas from other sectors to consider - alcoholic beverages, equipment, impulse lines, bakery, organics, merchandising, demonstrations and more. There is no better an opportunity to see, touch and taste new products, meet new suppliers, network and find that competitive edge, all in the one place at the one time.

ACCC Chairman, Graeme Samuel recently summed up the challenge and opportunities pertaining to retail saying, “Retailing can be a ruthless business where any slight advantage in attracting customers can mean the difference between success and failure.”

A visit to Fine Food couldn’t be more timely and if you are in the food industry you just can’t afford to miss it. For more information visit www.finefood.com.au

Food retailing turnover

In 2006-07, retail turnover in the food and liquor sector increased by 8% to $106.6 billion, according to the Australian Food Statistics 2007 edition. There are a number of factors associated with this increase, including higher fuel prices which had a significant effect on the cost of production and transport of food products across the sector.

Another influencing factor had been the strong world demand for Australian food exports. Supermarkets and grocery outlets continue to capture the majority of food sales with around 60% of the value of food and liquor retailing in 2006-07. Cafes and restaurants have averaged 14% and takeaway food outlets around 10% since 2003-04.
